About Mikey's Dog Rescue CIC

Mikey's Dog Rescue CIC is a foster based dog rescue located in the heart of Dorset. We predominantly rescue dogs from Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire and surrounding counties, but occasionally help dogs from further away.

However, all of our rescues are UK based dogs as we never rescue dogs direct from overseas, or support organisations who import same, regardless of their good intentions. We simply feel that there are enough dogs in the UK who need our help without the need to look abroad.

While a relatively new rescue, our founding members have worked extensively with dogs and within the dog rescue sector for many years.

Unlike many of the larger dog rescues, we do not have kennels. Instead we manage a network of foster carers who are dedicated dog loving people who have been kind enough to open their hearts and their homes to dogs in need of temporary shelter while we find them their "forever homes".

Mikey's Dog Rescue CIC - A Dorset Dog Rescue

Our fosters come from all walks of life and many have extensive experience of both dogs and dog fostering. They provide basic training, and more importantly, a stable and safe home environment to our dogs while in their care.

Mikey's Dog Rescue CIC incorporated as a Community Interest Company in March 2025 (Company No. 16306107).

A Community Interest Company (CIC) is a specific type of non-profit organisation in the United Kingdom that is designed to benefit the community rather than private shareholders. We are regulated by the Office of the Regulator of Community Interest Companies. This regulatory framework ensures that the company operates for the community's benefit and adheres to specific guidelines.

One of the defining features of a CIC is its commitment to social objectives. Unlike traditional businesses that prioritise profit, a CIC's primary aim is to serve the community; in this instance local dogs in need and the wider community.

Running a dog rescue is an expensive business, and turning a profit is rare. However, in the unlikely event that we have excess profits at the end of any given financial year, we have committed to the following: -

  • to provide dog food and supplies to local food banks
  • to provide financial support in the form of food, accessories and veterinary fees to those in financial need struggling with the cost of dog ownership.
